CT90 insurance - where?

Post by deegeeh » Wed Feb 26, 2020 11:04 am

Hi. I'm Dave and I have a small collection of bikes of mainly Honda variety, newest is a 2002 NT650V Deauville and oldest is a 1967 Honda P50.
I have an American import Honda CT90 which I need to insure on the chassis/frame number alone, so I can then send off all the necessary paperwork to the DVLA to register it.
If anyone can help me with known Insurance companies who have the Honda CT90 on their list, I would appreciate it. I know Bikesure do, but not sure of any others. I'm finding it hard to find a reasonable insurance quote (Bikesure over £117 !) As I only pay around £80 for my Deauville Through Swinton (who don't insure bikes on chassis number only basis as the CT90 would require) I think £117 is a bit high !!
From what I see not many have the CT90 on their list and not all insure bikes on the frame number only !!

Anyway. Sorry to ramble! Hello to all, any help to my Q appreciated... Dave

Firstly from experience small CC bikes are more expensive to insure as there's a higher theft potential from oiks (£70 for a 650, nearly £100 for a 125) & post code plays a huge factor

Secondly as an import the underwriter is hardly likely to be able to pop online and find a suitable replacement should the worst happen so they have to factor that in.

Can you not do the DVLA part first

I had a case of chassis no only last yr , lynbrook insurance were very good , they will cover for a mth then want vin

I had a problem (nova) so was delayed , rang the dvla , insurance is not needed to obtain a first reg , but must be got when vrn is issued , insurance is needed if you wish to ride to mot , I enjoyed this on a ex army (full drab) mt350 , complete with rifle carrier and no rear plate

So did you go with Peter James afterwards?

The true test of any insurance company is how they perform when you, unfortunately, have to make a claim.
I wrote off my cb1300 (cat-n actually) last October in a 50/50 blame smash. I didn't want to accept half the value of the bike so I went through my insurance company Cornmarket (underwriters Ageas) for the full market value and they finally paid me in full (less the £350 excess) last Friday after a four month's wait.
To be fair, I could have accepted their offer a month ago but asked them to reconsider the value (I sent them attachments of three high priced CB1300's for sale). After another month's wait they came up with a further £500 to £5400 which I was more than happy with though four months before a pay out was ridiculous.
