New Owner! C90C

Hi All,

I've finally found and bought the bike I was looking for... A lovely red 1983 C90-C. It will be pottering around in South London and out in to the surrounding countryside at weekends. :D

One thing I am after is a rear rack and maybe a top box for it. Does anyone have any idea what I need? Are they fairly universal, or specific to certain models/years etc. Also, if anyone has anything available, then please let me know!

Thanks,
Tom

Welcome, from a Nth London Cub owner. Rack and topbox are a good idea and if you can get a pannier friendly rack that would be even better. I'm using my phone at the mo so can't show any pics of what I mean. My little Ruby has been happily wandering with me to social club events. One you may like to go to is the up and coming Southern Softies event down on the south coast in August. Look it up.

Welcome.

In case you've not found it yet there is a proper Honda Workshop Manual covering your bike available to download.

Rear rack - as Leiba says the pannier friendly (Rickman- also sold as Hondastyle by Honda) rack is best but don't come up very often. There is one on eBay at the moment - not sure if it comes with the rear flat brackets to attach it to the indicator mounts but these are easy to make. This rack enables soft panniers to be strapped on without them rubbing on the rear wheel.

If you're not worried about panniers or originality there is a small rack available for about £22 delivered from various places like M&P,eBay etc. This will take a reasonable size topbox.

If you're wanting originality then most try to get hold of a period Rickman or Craven box. There are however loads of very cheap small boxes available with and without quick release baseplates. Again depends on whether you want looks or practicality, you should be able to do a new rack and demountable box for about £50.

If you keep your eye on local events you may find, at some stage, a meetup at Rykas Cafe near Dorking. :D

Thanks for the pic bikerbaker, saves me looking for one.
You don't want to get too big a box that holds too much weight or you'll be doing wheelies every time you fill it up.

Just so you know the racks for the 12v round headlight are shorter than the 12v square headlight racks.
Found this out when i took the rack off my square to fit on my c50lac and found out that the seats on this model are shorter and the rack and box when fitted looked wrong with a big gap between the seat and box.
Ended up cutting it down and bending the arms a little bit.
This is the cut down rack and a uncut one to show how much was cut off.

Even with it cut down still a big gap at the back, but you need a gap as the seat catch on the c -type is at the back and not at the side like on the square headlight models.

The black rack in a post above this wont fit the c-type as it mounts on the mudguard bracket bit that is under the plastic mudguard.

ps. A bit about racks will be going in my guides bit as i have been saving and taking lots of photos of racks and fittings.

Thanks for the welcome and advice everyone!

Ok- i’ll be keeping my eyes open for a Rickman rack then, and hopefully one that’s been on a round headlamp bike already, so I know it should fit.
If anyone sees one anywhere, then please let me know!
Thanks,
Tom

I have a spare one which came with a 'project' C50 LAC 1984, so I didn't actually see it fitted, or know if it will!
I will take some pictures and try and post them on here so others can give their opinions but it looks similar to the one on the C model above.
