What is this thing???? (clutch)
Hey All,
New to the forum so firstly high!
I'm currently working on a Dax with a C90 engine conversion and unfortunately it's FUBAR!! Well, at least the clutch is. I found a fair few chunks of the clutch outer case laying in the bottom of the engine cover and plenty of shrapnel in the oil when I drained it (don't worry, it's gonna get a good flushing out!).
My problem is this; what clutch is it?? I've searched on CMSNL and a bunch more in other places on Google and I can't find a similar looking clutch outer cover anywhere to replace it with. The engine number is HA02E-231@@@@ and has the 85cc head. I've got a fair idea of the year of the engine thanks to looking through these pages but I'd like to leave that bit over to you all to decide in case I am completely wrong. I am here to learn after-all.
I've attached a photo of it to help and you can see the damage too.
Let me know what you think peeps. If you need more information then please ask and i'll do my best to get it.
Thanks again everyone,
Si

That clutch is a manual one and not the stock type semi-auto one.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Yeah it must have been poor quality to break like that. There’s no damage to the engine casing so it’s just disintegrated like that!
I’ll look up OORacing, thanks.
Did the later year C90 lumps have manual clutches?

Re: What is this thing???? (clutch)
No.By manual they mean the clutch had to be operated by a hand lever. All Honda C90 clutches have a foot operation and a centrifugal one.The foot one controlled by the gear-lever,the centrifugal one by the engine speed.

Thanks JohnS and no, not all! No eggs sucking here!
So I think by accident I MAY have found out this is a CD90 clutch. Had a look on eBay for some alternatives and the one in the picture popped up. Looks very similar eh?
I’m guessing the CD90 had a manual hand operated clutch unlike the C90 (please tell me if I’m wrong)
Does that also mean the engine covers on the semi auto C90T and CD90 were interchangeable??
Right can of worms this!!!
Thanks again for the help peeps

Re: What is this thing???? (clutch)
The clutch assy was designed to not go over 9000 rpm,
I've seen them come apart like this if it's exceeded,
And it a lighten inner rotor flywheel is fitted.

Re: What is this thing???? (clutch)
Thanks for all the help and insights guys. Really appreciate it. I’ve found a replacement clutch to go on it after following advice here and some more research elsewhere.
Looks like this is a simple manual upgrade that can be bought in individual parts or as a complete kit that includes the clutch, gaskets, engine cover and associated parts.
Thanks again
