Filtering in traffic

Filtering in traffic - I am the worst offender - while not at speed - I am always doing it.

Undertaking - this is nearside filtering and it is legal in the UK

Lane splitting - this is overtaking in the UK and legal - as long as the white line is not solid or jagged.

The pavement - this is the tarmac of last resort. Best done pushing your scooter or at least paddling it with your feet (vehicle is broken down officer it keeps losing drive - I had to pull onto the pavement - I am gonna get squashed in the road).

The cycle bays at traffic lights - this is naughty - I try to avoid these - I will only use them if a car driver is being an idiot - as you are best in front of an idiot than beside one in heavy traffic.

I filter everyday. On a motorway I only filter between lanes two and three. I just don't feel safe filtering between lanes one and two.

There is no white lines on the nearside only the centre of the road.

I got caught in one this afternoon, Lights changed on me, braked, ended up half in the cycle box. " It was where I ended up, officer"

With so many idiots in London, I tend to only do it through stationary traffic. Too many times have I almost been side swiped by a driver who can only see cars, buses, lorries etc but doesn't see me.
Red and white bike, hi-viz orange jacket and headlamp.

§1: It's illegal to get caught

Cover up your plate and walk around the barriers, if you know the train doesn't come anytime soon.

I used to drive around the barriers at a certain crossing, where they would be down while the train was stopped at the clearly visible platform.

The line is straight more than a mile to both sides.

They've since changed it so they're only down when really needed.

Train barriers do frustrate me - they do seem to come down too early.

But:

The odd times I think about nipping thru (and yes I have thought about it).

There always seems to be kids on bikes about waiting.

I really would not want to encourage any child to think it is OK - to jump a train barrier.

So I sit there waiting - doing the right thing!

As I recall & I've stick to it all these years, solid white line, if there's no keep left arrows prior (Dartford Tunnel) then overtaking is not punishable and overtaking providing you dont actually cross over the solid white is no offence.
Overtaking vehicles moving at less than 6mph (I think) or stationary again no offence

Cycle boxes punishable by death in London but again if unable to proceed before lights change no issues
