first 'long distance' trip on Holly

Post by millerlovesa90 » Mon May 08, 2017 9:27 pm

So tomorrow I shall be making doing my first ' long distance' trip on Holly the C90.

I'll be riding from Deal to Hastings and back (110 mile round trip) mainly to check the bike's limits and it's MPG, plus as a novice it'll be good experience as the roads are diverse and twisty.

I'll let you guys know how I get on :D

Best advice (from SteveW), either 50 mph or full throttle......choose one!

So today was an eventful day...

My first 'long distance ride on 2 wheels. The ride started from Deal and finished in Hastings and then back again (roughly 110 mile round trip).

On the way there was pretty straight forward although I froze to death considering I had long johns and thermals on. Finally got to Hastings in roughly 2 hours and needed hot food and coffee quickly!

Once the feeling in my body had returned, a few snaps on the beach and I found an old Vespa outside an Italian restaurant which was cool!

Return trip home... I got just outside Hastings and the engine started to get louder and louder with lots of back firing. Turns out when I finally stopped for fuel in New Romney I noticed the exhaust was blowing. Well, I couldn't give up now so I got back on Holly and headed back to Deal via Folkestone (photo op!).

Finally home and time to inspect the exhaust... as you can see it has completely broken off! Hence the sputtering and backfires. Other than that, Holly didn't miss a beat!

Nice one. Great pics. Keep up the good work and stay between the hedges.

Well done. Shocking lack of maintenance on the exhaust by the way.

Well i've owned the bike for about 2 weeks now and the bike has done nearly 26K on the original exhaust before I even got to it. So it's fair to say it has done alright.

Glad you got home okay despite the exhaust. Hastings was where I was born and spent the first 40yrs of my life, 20 of them driving buses. I could never actually see why people wanted to go there for a day out, as realistically the place is a run down dump! As your pics looking towards the pier show, not a busy place out of season, lucky some scrote didn't nick your bike while you were getting food and drink, it really is THAT bad there!  Anyway, I saw no sign of a 90 club sticker anywhere on your bike, you MUST rectify this, it's the law! :D :D
