killarney cork honda 90 trip june 2016 ireland part 3

Post by shayshondacub90 » Sun Jun 12, 2016 10:42 am

next morning (sunday)was the main event for this honda weekend the famous ring of kerry a scenic loop or ring of kerry.
having done it 3 times before on my honda 90 i fancyied something different so i was off to the ring of beara in cork
this is a similar(ienjoyed it more)scenic loop of west cork only this dosent have the dreadfull tourbus,s which clogs up the ring of kerry..
i had got word that that three other honda lads on 90s and one on a 50 were going to do the beara trip also too so i arranged to go with them
i met them ouside town on sunday at 10 am and the 4 of us hit the road .
first little town we hit was having a vintage car show on so we stopped to have a look,,
escorts and a nice clean ford granada lined the streets and even two old barn find motorbikes were dragged out for the day..
on we continued as we had a lot of road to cover..
kenmare kerry a big town was next and coffee and cakes were on the menu...
on to glengariff cork and a friendly german woman came over to us in a petrol station as was facinated by the bikes.
on we cubbed as we were going to the healy pass next a mountain region..
i was amazed by the windy roads and we all stopped for the complulsory piccys.
how they do rally stages on these roads ill never know drivers must have nerves of steel..
on we went and the cyclists were everywhere enjoying the fine morning too.
next town was ardgroom and we went for a nice fish and chip meal in a house in the middle of nowhere
the lovely lady had a very nice busy eatery she ran from her remote house
we ate in the conservatory and the view was out of this world (we even seen a wild deer run past in the distance!!)
it was here we decided we would go out all the way to dursey island to see the cable car(only one in ireland)
a nice scenic route of approx 20 miles or so and we passed tru some very colourfully painted towns .
stopping at a nice scenic spot for a piccy i spoke to a english man in a camper van who had stopped to fix a punture
he too was loving the scenery and our little hondas too..
hitting dursey island at 545 we had been out all day on the bikes all day and there wasent time to go on the cablecar as we had a long drive back to killarney,,
i still went up to have a look at irelands only cablecar which is also used for transporting sheep and cattle out to the island,,
a few piccys and video taken we hit the road and more or less drove non stop back so not to get caught out in the dark..
3 hours later at 910 pm we arrived back in killarney and we had done 170 miles and a great time was had by all..
pub only being a few feet away i had a terrible thirst on me so i parked tired little cub up and wentover for a scoop
(sure i was on my holidays)
to be continued

Regarding the surface, is it tarmac or gravel?

Thanks for the updates. Thoroughly enjoyed following the trip.

I was wondering where I would find the best list of Irish ride outs for Hondas. I have been searching online and a lot of the site are out of date. I am based in Cork and will be taking my bike between The city and West Cork most weekends. Any ride outs or meet ups would be great to find.
