Re: The North Cape
Only mine had an electric start. Price ? I can't remember but I think it was around £1200/1300.

Re: The North Cape
Amazing thread and pictures Popeye. And all from Barlick! (nice consecutive 'CW' Burnley reg numbers too)
Chjeers for posting it. (the mis-spelt 'cheers' I've left as it seemed to fit the spirit of Scandinavia)

I don't know if anyone would ever pretend to be Lancastrian, but if I ever saw provenance for the real thing this is it...Popeye wrote: "How do you fancy a trip to the North cape?"
"Where's that?" was the reply.
"Oh somewhere at the top of Norway" A few minutes deliberation and
"Aye lad, Aw reet"
Nobody would think to underplay the understatement to such a degree, not even a Yorkshireman, and they're economical with everything! You're making me miss home and I'm still here Popeye!!!

Popeye's parents were from Preston. Popeye was born in Hertfordshire but the family returned to Preston after the war. ∴ Lancashire dialect is still present. It plays hell teaching Japanese students English but they're catching on.

Re: The North Cape
Brew Stops.
Primarily this was not a sightseeing trip as we had a lot of miles to cover and very little time but there was still time for a brew. We enjoyed many in idyllic settings.
We came from Barnoldswick. the name of which I believe derives from the Viking word of Vik. This next picture must be the nearest thing to B'lick anywhere.
We used recognized camp sites en-route. A bike and a small tent is still cheap even by Scandinavian standards. Every site had a camp kitchen that we made full use of every night.
Very tidy.
And so on to Finland. The road up the East coast is almost as boring as the E6 although more trees. I started counting them but gave up at about 9,000,003.
Making friends with the locals.
Our campsite here at Rovaniemi was big but empty and I looked forward to a good night kip. Ha, Goods trains came by every half hour and they were each about half a mile long.
But we were able to use all the facilities in this empty holiday cottage. The campsite even sold "Fishermans Friends"
