Hi,

I am on the hunt for a Honda C50 LAC, for my son. Ideally I am looking for an Mot'd one or one that can be recommissioned easily, I am in Cornwall but more than happy to travel for the right bike,

Thanks

You do know that they are not legal for 16 year olds .

No I didn't, the two i have enquired about state Moped on their V5's, as does his current 1983 Yamaha Passola. Now I am thinking that he isn't actually legal on the passola either as he has a 2018 CBT certificate but is riding a moped with a design speed not exceeding 30mph, which is 2mph quicker than his provisional licence allows??? I am confused

Sadly he can't ride the Passola either.

Mopeds were re-classified in 2013. The Passola and C50LAC are class P vehicles.

Your Son will only be able to ride vehicles of classes AM and Q.

On the plus side there are nearly 6 years' worth of used Class AM 'peds to choose from, if you don't want a brand new one.

Also, the odd geared 50 like the new Lexmoto Hunter. :)

Every single youngster I know who have been on the road in the past 5 years are all on 10 year old speedfights, sr50's, chinese monkey bikes, etc etc etc, I can't believe the insurance companies allow them to be insured, and that the police haven't decided to make a bloody fortune picking these kids up and seizing their uninsured vehicles(insurance must be invalid if rider doesn't have correct licence to ride it) What a nightmare. Anyone want to but a Yamaha Passola with a poorly carb??

You might be pleasantly surprised should you decide to ebay the Passola.

Nostalgia plays a large part in sales of old "mopeds."

We even got a surprisingly larger amount than I'd anticipated (£772) for Mrs Capitano's 2005 Peugeot Ludix when we sold it last year.

I have just sold the other son's honda mini melody which did quite well, and since posting on here earlier I have just found a 2014 Riders cub 50cc moped, which I reckon may well be ok for him to ride :)

Yep, they were 28mph AM classification as far as I know. Someone will correct me if I am wrong.
