i have been looking at 3 wheels over the winter, going for a test ride on a yamaha tricity 300 next week, but before i buy it , theres a few things i will need to know . as you dont need a motor cycle licence to ride it, is it a motor bike when it comes to parking , for instance can i park in a motor bike bay, also in some places a motor bike can use a bus lane,if they say its not a motor bike, i will accumulate a few fines before i find out.
i know some 3 wheelers are driven on car licences while others are on bike licences

Re: yamaha tricity 300
It depends if it has a footbrake or not , no footbrake it is a bike with a foot brake is a trike so ok on a car licence. Also check out the tax group for them as trikes are over £100.

Re: yamaha tricity 300
I did a piece on trikes previous.
Car or bike licence is dictated by distance between wheels
Unless things have changed TriCity are not covered by TfL excemption (only the Piaggio MP3 300) again its down to width & length and even then you have to send a photo of the trike
Its a grey area but if bay says solo or motorcycles only I think an over eager parking nazi will slap a ticket on it
John Banks have a S/H TriCity in stock but the one I previously looked at elsewhere was only a year old but had lead a hard commuter life with associated weather fatigue.
ColKwak (crap dealership) have a 2020 MP3 in stock with low miles
If I didnt need the London card I would buy a Yam' over Piaggio any day
Also strange Piaggio havent taken legal action against Yamaha over patents but destroyed the French made Metropolis

Re: yamaha tricity 300
I've a feeling the Tricity 300 is classed as a trike, therefore bike exemptions (parking, bus lanes etc.) don't apply.
I'm pretty sure this came up when released asnd it was on the Tricity's ad board at the NEC show.
Strangely enough, this YouTube video came up in my feeds this morning, and has the same conclusion.

Re: yamaha tricity 300
I know nothing much, never did.
If a vehicle is a tricycle on the V5 and has a footbrake a class 3 MOT is required, allegedly.
We have been searching for a class 3 tester in our area for a couple of weeks for Les's Qooder, yes it has 4 wheels but it's a tricycle on the V5. These are few and far between in SE Essex, we've visited about 3.
Today we went out for a spin and visited one of 2 possibles to try to book it in, very near the old Greeves and Invacar factories. The boss saw it as we parked up, said he'd never seen one before, took it for a short spin and did the MOT himself there and then.
Result! We later noticed the mileage was 20011km on the cert, a phone call later got it changed to 2011km.
