Pop up tent, how to fit on cub

Postby fatboytours » Mon Jul 26, 2010 11:35 pm

Just bought my lad one of these pop up tents from B & Q, went in for some decking and came out with a tent as well. Need to watch the you tube video on packing it up, but it is very easy to put up and take down again. Trying not to use the word erect there. Fancy taking it on next camping trip, but how do I fit 760mm diameter ring on Cub, will have to see how it fits behind leg shields

Simon from Ipswich uses one on his Cub, doesn't seem to be a problem.

Funny you mention B&Q, I went in at the weekend and some old geezer in an orange boiler suit came over and asked if I wanted decking!
Luckily I managed to get the first blow in, or it could have been nasty!

Just tried putting it on cub, it seems way too big and will not bend over top box, how did Simon pack his?

As I recall, it was on the back, on top of the topbox and other luggage.

I was looking at the tents advertised in the paper myself, and was wondering, would it be possible to put in two twists instead of one? ie. giving three hoops instead of two? Not sure how flexible the poles are.......

There is a 3 twist version, it's in decathlon and would just about be cubbable.

I have one of the older versions, I could carry it OK on the TMAX big scooter on the rear seat strapped to the top box - too big for a cub I fear.

I did carry it on the Enfield once using the shoulder straps, couldn't see owt in the mirrors or even turn my head to do a 'life saver'. Luckily it was only for 10 miles to the BSA rally locally.

The tent I used for Matlock was one of th decathlon 1man touring pop up ones. Folded up the disk is about 50cm across and I had it strapped ontop of the top box. The tent had no room to manoeuvre in and was quite a squeeze to fit in my luggage and bike gear!

You could try attaching it upright somehow but that would catch any crosswind!
