Hello from Orkney
Hi folks,
Escaped from Yorkshire and now retired to Orkney and have a few Hondas but the most fun is a C50 LAC - yes, the fully Auto one. Another daft friend and I are planning a trip next year to the Mosel valley in Germany (from Orkney) and we are negotiating the purchase of a C90 for him. Not sure if I should upgrade to a C90 as well, so I don't bring down the average speed too much or to bung a 90 motor into the 50 LAC - if they are a straight fit?
I restored my gifted 50 some years ago and put a brief account on my hobby site
http://www.stallard-engineering.co.uk/s ... %20LAC.htm.
One big advantage of the 50 is that you can legally use them (at the moment) on the cycle paths and routes in the Netherlands which would be far more pleasant - whereas the 70's and 90's have to use the normal roads. I have done many trips to Europe before but usually on a 1500 GoldWing - but the minimalist streak has always been lurking somewhere.

Welcome to the club ,you will always be a Yorkshireman
The 90 is better for long distance work the LAC is good but some parts are no longer available in the gear box so well worth looking after , a Lifan 110 would swap straight in .

Re: Hello from Orkney
Thanks for the replies folks,
Is the Lifan a good unit overall then? No parts made from case hardened chocolate I hope! I did strip the LAC unit completely and apart from a rebore and new piston everything else was well in spec - even the auto clutch units, so it was just seals and gaskets really. I could put the Lifan in and keep mine and change back to standard later I suppose. Do I get a new Lifan unit or are they available s/h?
I see that these new pound coins have flats on them now - at least they will be easier to get them out of a Yorkshireman's hand with a spanner!

Re: Hello from Orkney
It seems that most of the people who've swapped out to a Lifan motor are pretty happy with the result. I'm swapping mine out shortly so will be able to offer a better opinion!

Re: Hello from Orkney
I've had a 110 Lifan fitted for about 8 years now and am very pleased with the way it goes. The first one lasted just over 5k miles before the gearbox kept jumping out of third gear so I bought another one and it seems much better, although its just coming up a to 5k miles now. It's having 4 gears that make the big difference, making it possible to climb hills at 40-45 mph in third.

Re: Hello from Orkney
Don't tell Mrs Knapdog but there's a rather attractive lady in work whom I call "Spanners".
Why do you call me Spanners, she once asked.
To which I replied, " Everytime I see you my nuts tighten!"
