Legality of rebore/oversize piston for mopeds.

Post by joeloss1 » Mon Mar 20, 2017 7:05 pm

Hi chaps,
I'm also restoring an old Puch MV50 (48.8cc) which last owner fitted a 60cc barrel/piston to.
Just to add to the problem, these bikes have no brake light ....not needed on mopeds (i.e. under 50cc) pre 1986.
So bike currently breaks the law twice. Of course no one would ever know without taking engine apart but I sort of like things to be correct....i.e. no invalid insurance......DVLA issues etc......It seems to me that you only need to rebore original barrel by 0.5mm oversize to get to over the 50cc.
Original piston was weather-seized/removed. I have pattern new barrel/piston but would rather re-use original maybe.
Seems there must be loads of illegal mopeds around ?

Any ideas very welcome. Thanks.
John.

Buy this and relax,or leave it as it is and learn to enjoy being an outlaw rebel biker dude. I don't think ALL the lads on their Twist and Go's have got 80cc kits fitted to their bikes...but most of them have(allegedly).
