New to forum just saying hi.
Hello finally got registered, a bit of task to do it appears on a smartphone. I just wanted to say hi.
I am coming back to riding a cub after a longish break, this time round I bought a 1980 cub 50 L "moped" why? I have no idea, I liked the single seat look of it and the condition is really nice, I don't take delivery of her for over a week yet. I do have some questions after not finding much about this particular model on here but will keep looking first and figure out the best place to ask my questions....Thanks.....James.

Thanks I will, a lot about the LAC c50 not much about the c50L. Never the less, it's stamped on the bike as "moped" I have both the old "p" category issued from when i got my full driving test and the new "AM" category on my licence, dating from some time in 2013, Everybody telling me ride on my full car licence, no L plates no CBT including my local bike shop but i read conflicting things online. Insurence seems to be the same no mention of CBT. who knows won't ride it until I know for sure.

Re: New to forum just saying hi.
Someone with more knowledge will be along soon. Until then, I'll have a stab with what I know.
Being 1980 registered, and classed on the V5 as a moped at that time I have a feeling that the C50L is indeed a Class P vehicle under current DVLA rules.
If that's the case and you have Class P as an entitlement you are good to go on that bike, no L plates. If you passed your car test before 2001 you don't need a CBT either. If you passed it between 2001 and 2013, you will need a CBT but one is classed as a "lifetime" one for Category P vehicles. ie you only need do one, not one every 2 years.
Class P: You can drive 2-wheeled vehicles with a maximum design speed of over 45km/h (28mph) but not more than 50km/h (31mph).
Its engine size must not be more than 50cc if powered by an internal combustion engine.

Re: New to forum just saying hi.
Hi, thanks that seems to be the case, passed in 2002 so a one off CBT it is then. Waiting to here back from my local bike training centre too. Last time I had a cub, albeit a c90, back in the late 90s, it was buy it, insure it, stick L plates on it and away you go. Suppose all that's changed really, is complete a CBT, maybe not a bad thing. Being the "moped" version cub nearly complicates it more but that's not how I am looking at it.. thanks for reply.

Re: New to forum just saying hi.
Local bike shop says ride away on my liscence. Two guys who work together same CBT school both say different things.....serious no joke one says CBT then one every 2 years and L plates, this is absurd IMHO and wrong. Other guy looked at my liscence said you dont need to do anything, insure and tax and away you go. My understanding of it is with my full car liscence, i passed in 2002 it's a one of CBT for the cat P moped c50, a CBT every two years and L plates for anything over....so bored of it now TBH, even within that industry there are differing opinions. I guess I will do a one of CBT with a different company...thanks for interest.
