Hello,

I had a really lovely C90 in 1999 and in 2002 it got stolen and wrecked. I'd put so much into the little chap I was heartbroken and lost the will to get him back up to scratch again, and donated him to a charity.

Last year I bid a little too much on eBay and got myself another. This time, it's a bit of a snotter and needs a complete rebuild. This is why I've signed up to this site, hoping to glean as much help and advice during my journey through the rebuild.

I think the engine is okay, I rode it from Nottingham to Lichfield last week hitting speeds of 50 mph. :o

I'll have a mooch around the site and see what I can see to help me, but I'll probably be asking loads of stupid questions. Look out for the rebuild thread when I get started.

Tufty

Welcome.
50mph is good so there can't be too much wrong with it. Still, there's a wealth of information to be had here if you need it. :)
Oh, and pictures would be good. We like pictures here.

Picture for you.

You can't really see how bad the rust is as the people who sold it to me painted over the rust.

Pretty much on all metalwork. It is really quite rough.

It appears to be missing the bottom legshield bolts as well. have they sheared off in the engine?

Thanks for the welcome by the way.

I haven't investigated the leg shield bolts, although I have noticed that the RHS mirror has sheared off. I bought it last October but have been working and living away from home so haven't had a chance to get to grips with it, along with moving house and having a baby etc.

The new house, when we get there, has a big garage so I'm hoping to get a ramp and start a full restoration of the little fella. Then we'll be able to see what it really needs.

I also would like to strengthen the frame somehow. I have an idea I'd like to ride it on one of the classic trials run by the Motor Cycle Club. I did the Lands End Trial last year on my BMW but several people did it on C90's I believe. It would be good to have a go, maybe get a team from here to enter.

Mine is missing the bottom shield bolts too.I took them out as it made the leg-shield vibrate and VERY noisy.

You really should consider removing the plastic rear mudguard for a good look. this area is notorious for rot.
other areas to check is
1/ Under the rear mudguard
2/ Under the fuel tank
3/ The down tube above the engine. this requires the engine to be removed. if it gets too bad the bike is a scrapper.
4/ Forks and swinging arms can also rot out normally from the inside where you cannot see it.
Repair panels are available for the rear if needed although you need to import them from the USA.
here are a couple of photos of a frame i scrapped
