i personally think the townmate was the best, but only just, but, honda had, and still has the market,
go for a honda, you can get parts easier

Townmate ..roomier , slicker, feels bigger , has a stately feel to it nippy enough but no faster, yeah its good but not as sporty as the honda not as raw, the honda engine has a race feel to it ..if you no what i mean..old boneshaker that it is..ha ha gettin quite fond o the ole heap!

In my opinion having owned a town mate and a cub i prefer the cub. Did like the shaft drive and 4 speed box but that's about it. 4 gears helped on hills and i think the tank was a bit bigger. Prefer the c90 for comfort and parts availability though. Wouldnt kick a t80 out of bed though at the right price. Actually talking of hills and top speed ask the lad on the yellow t80 who kept trying to get in front of me on Matlock ride out! My cub was better on hills and had higher top end but not by much.

I didnt get a top speed run on the t80 , it being a fresh engine , dont want to rev the nuts too soon, but the yam maybe a bit faster..i'll run them both an let yous know.
the honda is over geared at the mo,could do with an extra tooth on the back that would allow it run all the way thru its range..dont want to run with 'tronic ignition an non standard parts , i know it would be better but want to keep it standard an get a real 60mph outta it..i heard old boys back in the day sayin how they got 60..regular..funny i wouldnt have been seen dead riding a "jump thru" back then..but being an old boy mesell now..they suddenly make sense !

i really appreciate all your replies an advice, thanks

I don't think you will do it but I wish you all the best in your endeavours.

If it was me I would fit a cylinder head temp gauge and beep a close eye on it, over 400f and you can kiss the motor goodbye

Believe me I've killed more than my fair share of cub motors in the pursuit of honest speed - my shelf containing 'Offerings to the gods of speed' is rather full...

My back and medical conditions forbids me laying chin on the handlebars hence i like windscreens. Him on the t80 was practically planking!
