"Chinese Takeaway" UK to Cape Town on Riders Cubs
I know, I'm a disgrace to all the genuine Jap C90's out there, but in my defence I have a C50LAC in the shed...!
We leave in a week, Portsmouth - Le Havre - Barcelona - Morocco and down.
Only a few entries on my blog at the moment, but will update as regularly as I can.

...Wish me luck!

A plug, yes. Why not keep it here? Start a thread and keep it updated. I'm sure you will reach a far bigger audience!garth wrote:I know, I'm a disgrace to all the genuine Jap C90's out there, but in my defence I have a C50LAC in the shed...!

Two of us, me and my OH. We have no timescale, it's open ended. I would guess at six to nine months. See how we go!
I will keep both updated for sure! Most that will read the blog are not members on here so it makes sense to not have a login, etc.Newt wrote: A plug, yes. Why not keep it here? Start a thread and keep it updated. I'm sure you will reach a far bigger audience!

Take our very best wishes with you and stay safe. (I was dragged up in Africa as a nipper, yes it was a million years ago)
Dogs can/will be a pain, especially in numbers; get a big size walking staff tied to the bike in reach.
Small insect bites will get infected easily, you can still buy iodine in Spanish chemists.
I'd choose army boots over bike boots.
Snakes can be lethal and are attracted to sleeping humans as a source of warmth - small ones the size of bootlaces scan be lethal.
Knock out your boots in the morning to get rid of scorpions.
Pay attention to your instincts, if you feel the hairs on the back of your neck rising and a feeling that you are being watched/stalked; such instincts are the result of millions of years of evolution.
Thorns are big and strong enough to go through 2 layers of Land Rover tyres; expect lots of punctures.
Remember to have fun.

Thanks very much - I've got a couple of spare tubes and a puncture repair kit, and some hiking boots over bike boots.Diesel Dave wrote:Take our very best wishes with you and stay safe. (I was dragged up in Africa as a nipper, yes it was a million years ago)

Good luck with your trip Garth.
It might be worth your while to drop Dennis Robinson a Line. Dennis runs the Scooters in the Sahara trips an regularly rides C 90s from the UK to Bansang hospital in West Africa.
He knows a lot about riding down that way as his other bike is a BMW GS.
Here is a contact link for him or look for Scooters in the Sahara.

I also lived in Africa in the late 50's early 60's one bonus (if they still make them ) Hot Patches, in the heat of the day rubber solution can dry almost before it leaves the tube.Hot Patches are / were a single patch fixed to a steel pan, on the other side is a fiber image of the patch, you use the clamp provided to clamp the pan patch down over the hole in the tube light the fiber with lighter or fag this rapidly burns and vulcanise the patch to the tube.IF they are still available in Africa they are a godsend
Good Luck
