Re: Gold c90
It depends on your budget and how much time or enthusiasm you've got to get stuck in, but I think it's well worth considering getting a red or blue Cub and repainting it gold. Or at least doing a sound and thorough preparation and then getting the top coat professionally sprayed on.
The factory paint job was awful on every last one of them and from what I've read on these pages and seen for myself, there was no attention at all given to rust-proofing. So it's rust that usually kills them off for good, not mechanical problems, unless the owner happens to be a very skilled and patient welder!
If you get a rot free red or blue one, then strip it and give it a proper rust proofing and paint job, you'll have no worries about corrosion again, and a beautiful gold paint job too.
The first thing I did when I got my C90 2 years ago was strip it and get the rusty but sound frame blasted clean and polyester powder coated. I gave it a wash last weekend and it really was filthy. But dirt came off and there was still nice clean, shiny paint underneath, with no rust showing at all. Even that stupid seam (it's a 6volter) where the metal rear mudguard joins the frame is still clean. Wish I could say the same for the Thai pattern exhaust. . .
